Measurement applications

What can you measure?

Measurement application

External dimensions

Measure external diameters, widths and thicknesses using the outside measuring jaws. Select jaw length and measuring range to suit the component.

Measurement application

Internal dimensions

Measure accessible internal diameters and widths using the inside measuring jaws. Jaw geometry and contact access determine which features can be measured.

Measurement application

Depth and step dimensions

Measure recess depth or step height using the appropriate depth rod or step-measuring faces. Confirm that the selected caliper variant includes the required feature.

Start with the reading system

One category. Three ways to read.

Vernier

Read from the scale

For teams using a mechanical vernier reading method. Compare the 16 GN within the India-listed range.

Dial

Read from a dial

A mechanical dial readout for dimensional checks. The India list includes the 150 mm 16 U.

Digital

Read from a display

Compare MarCal and MarTool digital models. Select data output or Integrated Wireless only where the chosen variant supports it.

Model family Listed range options What to compare
16 GN 150 mm Vernier reading; 0.02 mm scale interval.
16 U 150 mm Dial reading; 0.01 mm graduation.
16 ER 150 / 200 / 300 mm Digital options; depth rod and friction wheel vary by order number.
16 EWR 150 / 200 / 300 mm Digital options, including specifically listed data-output variants.
16 EWRi 150 / 200 / 300 mm Integrated Wireless variants; specify the receiver separately.
MarTool 16 E / 16 ES 150 / 200 / 300 mm 0.01 mm resolution. Brochure error limit: ±0.03 mm at 150/200 mm; ±0.04 mm at 300 mm.

Range options refer to separate variants. Resolution is not an accuracy specification. Confirm the exact order number, accessories and current availability.

Four details make selection easier

Specify the caliper around the feature.

01 / Dimension & tolerance

Share the required measuring range and drawing tolerance. Check the instrument error limit against the measurement task.

02 / Jaw & depth access

Identify outside, inside, step or depth measurement. Select the depth-rod geometry; the MarTool 16 ES 300 mm brochure row does not show a depth rod.

03 / Workshop conditions

Describe the environment and handling conditions so the exact model’s protection rating can be checked.

04 / Measurement records

If readings must be transferred, specify the receiving software and a compatible cable or wireless receiver.

Frequently asked questions

Which Mahr caliper should I choose for routine workshop inspection?

Start with the largest dimension you need to measure and the required tolerance. Compare 150, 200 and 300 mm variants, then choose vernier, dial or digital reading. For digital models, also check the depth rod, protection rating and whether you need to transfer readings.

Can the same caliper measure outside dimensions, bores and depth?

A suitable jaw and depth-rod configuration can cover outside, inside, step and depth measurements. Check the exact variant: the supplied MarTool brochure does not show a depth rod for the 300 mm 16 ES. Deep or small bores may require a dedicated bore gauge or inside micrometer.

Which models can send readings to a computer?

Choose an explicitly specified data-output variant or a MarCal 16 EWRi Integrated Wireless model. Include the compatible cable or receiver in the quotation. Do not assume that every digital caliper has a data connection.
