What is a profile projector used for?

A profile projector, also called an optical comparator, magnifies a component contour onto a screen for dimensional inspection. Metzer table-type models offer 200, 300 and 400 mm screens. Screen diameter describes the viewing area; measuring travel defines the coordinate range.

Magnified profiles for dimensional comparison

Metzer vertical profile projectors offer a direct view of a magnified component profile. Select the screen and objective for the detail you need to observe, and the stage travel for the dimensions you need to measure. The range includes micrometer measurement and glass-scale configurations used with compatible digital readouts or PC software.

Typical inspection tasks include small machined profiles, tool shapes, radii, angles and contour comparison. Rotary tables, V-blocks and centre holding devices can support suitable workholding arrangements.

Frequently asked questions

Which objectives are available?

The listed standard objective is 10×, with 20× and 50× options. Select magnification for the feature detail and required field of view.

Is screen size the measuring range?

No. Screen diameter defines the viewing area; stage travel defines how far the component can move for measurement.

Can I add a digital readout or PC software?

The glass-scale configurations support compatible readouts or PC measurement arrangements. Confirm encoder interfaces and the supplied measuring system before selection.

Can the travel range be extended?

The SUPREME listings offer optional travel up to 400 mm in X and 200 mm in Y. Confirm the required configuration and workholding with your enquiry.
