Peel.CAD Workflow: From Scan Mesh to CAD Reference

Peel.CAD helps extract geometry from scan data for further CAD work. A useful workflow preserves the original scan, establishes an appropriate alignment, extracts the required entities and checks the reconstructed result against the measured reference.

What does Peel.CAD contribute to reverse engineering?

The manufacturer describes tools for extracting geometric entities, cross-sections and surfaces from scan data. These support the transition from a mesh to geometry used in CAD work. Check the current product package and licence for your intended workflow. Peel.CAD manufacturer overview.

Before processing, decide whether you need a representation of the measured condition or a reconstructed design. Worn or damaged regions can otherwise be mistaken for intended geometry.

What are the main steps?

Step Practical check
Preserve the input Keep the original mesh, units and acquisition context.
Prepare the mesh Remove irrelevant data and record significant edits.
Establish alignment Use an agreed reference orientation or datum strategy.
Extract geometry Select the sections, surfaces and geometric entities needed.
Continue in CAD Build the requested model and check it against the reference.

Carry a representative feature through every stage during a demonstration. Confirm that exported geometry opens correctly in the intended CAD software and that dimensions and units are preserved.

Why do mesh edits need care?

Filling a hole creates geometry where measured data may be missing. Smoothing can alter local detail. Reducing mesh density can remove features important to the model. Apply these operations according to the intended output and retain a comparison with the original.

For an engineering handover, identify areas reconstructed by assumption. A clean-looking mesh should not conceal uncertainty about hidden or inaccessible surfaces.

Is a scan-to-CAD model ready for manufacturing?

Manufacturing requires more than a surface representation. The engineering scope may also need dimensions, tolerances, material information, fits and review of design intent. Agree who is responsible for these decisions and which outputs are included.

K K Geo System Pvt Ltd can scope CAD modelling and engineering drawings from physical components or customer-supplied scan data. Overseas customers can commission modelling without commissioning scanning.

How should you request a software demonstration?

Share a representative scan, its units, the required CAD format and the features to reconstruct. Ask to see the actual reconstruction and validation steps.

Frequently asked questions

Is mesh conversion the same as reverse engineering?

No. Exporting a mesh changes its file format; reverse engineering reconstructs geometry and may require decisions about design intent.

Does hole filling measure a hidden surface?

No. It constructs a surface across a gap. Mark assumed geometry and obtain more measurements when needed.

Can you model scans captured overseas?

Yes. Share a sample and required outputs for a review of coverage, quality and modelling scope.
