Metzer · Metallographic Specimen Mounting Presses
Metzer metallographic specimen mounting presses support sample preparation by forming a mount around a suitable specimen. Mounting can make small or irregular sections easier to handle during polishing and examination. The mounting process and material should suit the specimen, the features to be retained and the preparation equipment used next.
Mounting is used for suitable metallographic sections requiring easier handling, consistent holder fit or support during surface preparation.

Answers to common questions about metallographic specimen mounting presses.
Does every metallographic specimen need mounting?
No. Mounting is useful when a specimen needs additional support or easier handling. Larger specimens may be prepared without a mount if the equipment and method allow.
Can heat-sensitive samples be mounted in a press?
Heat and pressure sensitivity must be assessed before using a press-based process. Such samples may require another mounting method; selection should follow the material and examination needs.
How should I choose the mount diameter?
Choose a size that accommodates the specimen and is compatible with the preparation holder. Use the confirmed mould dimensions for the selected press.
What is needed for a quotation?
Provide specimen dimensions, mounting medium, required mount size, preparation volume and polishing holder details.
