REFLECTED-LIGHT MICROSCOPY

Reflected-light examination of metal surfaces

Metzer upright metallurgical microscopes position the objectives above the specimen and illuminate the surface for examination. They support inspection of opaque materials, prepared metal sections and surface features. Select the stage and optics around the specimen, then add compatible cameras and software for image capture or measurement.

Material Microstructure

Observe prepared metal and alloy sections for comparative microstructure examination and materials studies.

Industrial Surface Inspection

Examine surface features on specimens that fit the stage and working clearance of the selected microscope.

Digital Documentation

Capture micrographs with a compatible camera port, adapter and imaging system for inspection records and analysis.

Application-led Optics

Choose objectives and contrast methods for the features of interest. Selected systems also combine reflected and transmitted illumination.

Optics and accessories vary by configuration. Specify the required head, illumination and camera arrangement with your enquiry.

Build a complete microscopy system

The microscope, specimen stage, illumination, camera and analysis software work together. A useful configuration begins with the material feature and the image or measurement you need.

Sample & Stage

Specimen dimensions and height determine the stage and clearance required. The prepared area must be accessible and held securely.

Optics & Illumination

Magnification, field of view and contrast determine how the feature is seen. Select objectives and illumination for the material examination.

Camera & Software

A compatible imaging port and adapter connect the camera. Image-based measurements also need suitable software and calibration.

Records & Reporting

Define the images, annotations and measurements needed in the inspection record. Select software outputs around the required report.

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose an upright or inverted microscope?

An upright microscope views the specimen from above; an inverted microscope views a prepared face from below. Choose by specimen geometry, handling and required optical access. Explore inverted microscopes.

Can a camera be added to an upright microscope?

Compatible trinocular configurations support camera-based imaging. The imaging port, adapter, camera and software must work together. Explore Metzer imaging cameras.

Are all contrast modes included?

No. Illumination and contrast modes depend on the microscope and optics supplied. Identify the features you need to observe so the configuration includes the appropriate methods.
