3D Scanning & As-Built Modelling for Oil & Gas Plants

K K Geosystem supports oil, gas and process-plant projects with 3D scanning, as-built plant modelling and drawing preparation. Accessible piping, equipment and structures can be documented for brownfield modifications and layout coordination, with scanning and modelling commissioned together or separately.

How does an as-built model help a brownfield project?

An as-built model provides a structured representation of existing geometry for design coordination. It can help the engineering team review proposed routes, equipment envelopes and physical interfaces against the measured site, provided the required detail and verification scope are defined.

What can the agreed scope deliver?

Project need Activity to scope Potential output
Brownfield modifications Capture accessible piping, structures and equipment Agreed point cloud and plant model
Offshore documentation Plan capture around authorised platform access Scoped existing-condition data
Equipment interfaces Record connections and surrounding geometry Selected interface drawings
Customer-supplied scans Review scan quality and model specification Remote models and drawings

Outputs depend on the commissioned scope. Scanning, modelling, drawing preparation and inspection are agreed separately; a scan-only assignment does not automatically include all of them.

What should be agreed before work begins?

Start with a marked-up plot plan and an explicit modelling specification. Define pipe-size thresholds, equipment detail, structural coverage, tag sources and drawing requirements. Where surfaces are obstructed, the handover should distinguish measured geometry from assumptions. A model is only useful for tie-in planning when the critical interfaces have the necessary measurement and checking scope.

Information to include in your enquiry

  • Plot plan, work area and project purpose
  • Piping, equipment and structure modelling requirements
  • Tie-in or interface list and available reference drawings
  • Site restrictions, file formats and delivery milestones

What are the measurement boundaries?

Site permits, hazardous-area restrictions and equipment suitability must be reviewed before mobilisation. A scan-derived model does not independently determine process connectivity, material specification, pressure rating or fitness for service. Those attributes need approved engineering records or separate verification.

Required accuracy, coverage, coordinate reference and acceptance criteria should be defined for the intended use. Any relevant gaps or assumptions should be recorded with the deliverables.

Frequently asked questions

Can you provide modelling without carrying out the scanning?

Yes. K K Geosystem provides modelling and drawing services to overseas customers using customer-supplied scan data. Coverage and quality are reviewed before the scope is finalised.

Have you worked on offshore platforms?

K K Geosystem has carried out scanning at offshore platforms. End-customer names, locations and images are omitted where confidentiality restrictions apply.

Is every pipe attribute available from the scan?

No. Geometry alone does not reliably establish process service, material or pressure rating. Required attributes must be supplied or separately verified.
